Scope

This policy covers smbajwa.com and the browser-based research tools published on this site.

Site data and infrastructure

The site code in this repository does not set tracking cookies or include analytics or advertising trackers. Cloudflare may process infrastructure-level logs needed to deliver and protect the site and, if enabled, may provide privacy-friendly analytics. That processing is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Research tools

The tools run in your browser. Manuscripts and abstract text never leave your browser. Files you choose or drop are read locally with the browser FileReader API and are never uploaded to smbajwa.com. Local parsing, filtering, calculations, comparisons, and exports are performed on your device. File controls enforce documented size and row limits before analysis.

The seven tools use the network as follows. Requests for bundled data, scripts, and styles are made only to smbajwa.com; the third-party metadata requests below occur at the stated action.

• Identifier Toolkit: after you press “Look up metadata” and approve the confirmation, valid DOI or ISSN values are sent to the providers you selected: Crossref, OpenAlex, and/or DOAJ.
• Reference Integrity Checker: local analysis sends nothing. After you press “Check online metadata” and approve the confirmation, normalized DOI values or citation title, author, and year fields are sent to Crossref and, if selected, OpenAlex.
• Plant Lab Toolkit: no third-party service is contacted; calculations and file parsing are local.
• Journal Trust Profile: local suggestions use a file from smbajwa.com. After you press the lookup button and approve the confirmation, the entered ISSN or title is sent to DOAJ, OpenAlex, and Crossref.
• OA & APC Explorer: when you press “Search DOAJ + OpenAlex,” the entered ISSN or title is sent to DOAJ; ISSNs in the returned matches are then sent to OpenAlex. This lookup does not show a separate confirmation dialog.
• Abstract-to-Journal Matcher: manuscript matching is local and manuscript text is never sent. When you press “Refresh public evidence” for a result, only that journal's ISSN is sent to OpenAlex, Crossref, and DOAJ; no separate confirmation dialog is shown.
• Emerging Journals Database 2026: searching, filtering, and opening bundled trend data are local or use files from smbajwa.com. When you press “Refresh live OpenAlex” on a journal, only its ISSN is sent to OpenAlex; no separate confirmation dialog is shown.

The third-party services are governed by their own policies: Crossref privacy information and terms; OpenAlex privacy policy and terms; and DOAJ privacy policy and terms.

Browser storage

Optional lookup results may be cached in your browser's localStorage or IndexedDB for up to 30 days to reduce repeat requests and support rate-limit fallbacks. The tools provide controls to clear these browser-side caches, and clearing site data in your browser also removes them.

Sharing

Sharing is link-only. The site does not load social-network SDKs, tracking scripts, or social cookies. Nothing is sent to a social network until you choose one of its share links. Shared tool links contain only the public smbajwa.com URL and fixed descriptive text; manuscript text, calculations, pasted references, and identifiers are never added. QR codes are generated locally in your browser and can be saved as PNG files without contacting a QR service.
