How to use the Publishing Toolkit
- Choose Reference checker or Identifier toolkit.
- Paste your material and run the local analysis.
- Review duplicates, normalization and checksum findings; verify important records at their primary source.
Worked example
Paste 10.1038/srep31772 in Identifier toolkit. Local analysis recognizes and normalizes the DOI; an online lookup is optional and sends only that normalized DOI after confirmation.
About and limitations
Use the local checks to find duplicates, normalize identifiers and test checksums. Optional evidence links open Crossref, OpenAlex, DOAJ and ORCID pages. Automated matching can be incomplete or ambiguous and is not proof that a citation is correct, retracted or complete.
Frequently asked questions
Does pasted text leave my browser?
No. Local analysis does not transmit it.
Which reference formats work?
DOI lists, formatted references, BibTeX, RIS and CSL-JSON are supported by the retained parser.
What duplicate checks are made?
Normalized DOI duplicates and supported metadata similarities are flagged for review.
Which identifiers are validated?
DOI, ISSN, ISBN and ORCID are detected, normalized and checksum-tested where the standard defines one.
Does a valid checksum prove the record exists?
No. It only confirms that the identifier is structurally plausible.
Where can I inspect an ISSN as a journal?
Use its Journal Hub link for identity, OA, timing and trust evidence.
